Vampires Need Extra Frames to Get Past Lions
The Santa Clara Vampires beat the Lerna Lions, 5-4, in 11 innings. Santa Clara first baseman Stu Dial merited player of the game honors with his performance. He was 2 for 5 with a home run, a triple, and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. The Vampires saw their record improve to 31-31.

Dial had a game-changing home run in the top of the 11th. On a 0-1 sinker from Steve Flanagan, he banged a solo home run to left-center, giving the Vampires a 5-4 lead. It was the 10th home run of the year for Dial.

In comments to the Santa Clara Daily, Dial admitted that he doesn't always push himself. "But the results," he said, "speak for themselves."
