The Eureka Hornets beat the Mexico City Luchadores, 5-4, at The Royal Grounds. Eureka first baseman Hugo Calvo collected 2 singles and 1 double with 1 RBI. Matt Acrey earned the save, his 7th. The win gives Eureka a record of 16-12.
Monroe, North Carolina-born Mike Maguire came through in the clutch. In the top of the eighth, with the bases loaded and the Hornets trailing 4-3, he hit a 2-run single to center to put Eureka on top.
"Both teams played hard," said Eureka manager Juan Montés.
