Beavers Need Extra Frames to Get Past Gremlins
Baseball fans saw a good contest between the Portland Beavers and Houghton Gremlins.

The Portland Beavers trumped the Houghton Gremlins, 6-5, at Golden Goebels Park. Portland left fielder Donald Williams was terrific. He went 2 for 5 with a home run and a triple. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. Portland reliever Jon Venegas got the win, raising his record to 3-1. Chris Wethington was tagged with the loss.

Portland used the clutch hitting of Rich Auld to snag the win. The third baseman drilled a solo home run in the top of the 11th inning to put the Beavers ahead, 6-5. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a crucial one.

"You can't get too high when things go well, or too low when things go bad. Right now, I'm just happy we got the win," Williams told the Portland Daily News.

Portland has a record of 12-17.
