The El Paso Mavericks defeated the Cairo Pharaohs, 11-5, at The Corral. Jeff Gifford produced 3 singles and 1 double, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 1. El Paso reliever John Krause picked up the win, while Francisco Tenorio took the loss for Cairo. Cairo's current losing streak is now 4 games.

The Pharaohs had been locked in a 5-5 tie with the Mavericks going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 21-year old second baseman Matt Dahlk came to the plate. Dahlk hit a 2-run double on a full count fastball from Cairo hurler Francisco Tenorio. It was Dahlk's 8th double of the year.

"Enjoyed this one," Gifford told the El Paso Daily News. "But it's back to work tomorrow."
