Manhattan starter Tom Simmons put a stranglehold on the Loachapoka offense. The left-hander had complete command of his changeup in leading the Slice to a 5-1 win. Simmons, now 4-0, was the winner. In 6.2 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 7, walking 3, and allowing 1 run. Carlos Abasta earned the save for Manhattan, his 1st.
One of the highlights for Manhattan came with one out in the top of the eighth. Roberto Gomez, who finished 3rd in the RCL in home runs with 40 in 2056, hit a 3-run home run on a 2-0 fastball to put the Slice up, 5-1. For the game, the designated hitter went 2 for 4 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once.
"It was just a matter of executing," said Manhattan manager Alfonso MartÃnez.
Manhattan occupies 6th place in the Roberto Clemente League Christian Latulippe Division at 16-20.
