The bad news for the Mexico City Luchadores: an opening day loss, 6-4, to the West Island Jazz at The Royal Grounds. The good news: it was just game one in a long season. No one played better than George Patten. He hit 2 home runs. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice.

Bob Enriquez came through with a big-time hit for West Island. The third baseman smacked a 2-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to give his team the lead, 4-2. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.

West Island manager Pedro Gonzáles called it "a darn good win."
