The Jacksonville Pilots trumped the Bloomington Blazers, 6-2, at Arson Arena. Jacksonville designated hitter Luis Velez was terrific. He went 2 for 3 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while scoring 2 and driving in 2. Picking up the save was Kelvin Tolmie, his 2nd. Bloomington is now 1-6.
In the top of the fifth, Jacksonville third baseman John Popper had a productive at-bat. With a runner on 2nd and two out, Popper stroked a run-scoring single to center. It made the score 2-0, Jacksonville. For the game, he went 1 for 5.
"I'm proud to wear a Jacksonville jersey," Velez told the Jacksonville Herald. "We played a good game and came out with the win. What more can you ask for?"
