Lions Come Up Short at Montreal
|
The Montreal Cardinals did just enough to secure a 4-3 victory over the Lerna Lions at Nezahualcoyotl HS Grounds. Nobody did more than pitcher Jeff Wyzykowski, who captured player of the game honors. Wyzykowski, the winner, moves to 1-2. He threw 5 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 8 and giving up 1 walk. Chris Cole earned the save for Montreal, his 7th.
The Cardinals got an important contribution from shortstop Francisco Lopez, who in the bottom of the first punched a 2-1 fastball into right-center for a run-scoring single. It was his 33rd hit of the season and put the Cardinals ahead, 4-0.
"We made a couple of mistakes," said Lerna skipper Morgan Tompsett, "and it cost us."
The win puts the Cardinals at 15-17, while the Lions drop to 15-17.
