Kovalev Shuts Out Bison, 2-0 Sunday, September 23rd , 2057 Igor Kovalev was throwing strikes early and getting ahead in the count, his manager said after the Vancouver Pioneers hurler tossed a 8-hit, complete game shutout against the Buffalo Bison. "I went right after each hitter, trying to get ahead in the count," said Kovalev. "I wanted them to swing the bats and keep my pitch count down. It worked. I felt strong the whole game, even in the last two innings." Kovalev walked 2 and struck out 8 in the 2-0 victory. Checking out his stats for the season, Kovalev has notched 9 wins and 9 losses in 23 starts. His ERA is 3.69 and he's struck out 96 batters in 173.1 innings.
