A good performance from designated hitter Cris Garcia helped the Rutland Voodoos defeat the Kearny High Cardinals, 8-7. Garcia hit 2 home runs, while adding 5 RBI and scoring twice for the Voodoos. The Voodoos improved their record to 40-17 by beating Kearny High.

The game was decided with one out in the bottom of the ninth. With Rutland trailing 7-6, Garcia jumped on a slider from 15-year old right-handed pitcher Randy Reynolds and hit a 2-run home run to right-center. With one swing, the Voodoos had a walk-off win.

"We got the victory," said Garcia. "That's all that matters at the end of the day."
