Orange Sox Grind Out 2-0 Win
|
Starting pitcher Miguel Merino gave the Syracuse Orange Sox a rock-solid effort. The Guadalajara, Mexico native helped his team defeat the Carrollton Rangers, 2-0, at Syracuse Fields. The winning pitcher was Merino, now 1-0. He tossed 7.1 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 4 and fanning 10. Gabriel Quezada earned his 3rd save, after closing out the game.
With scoring opportunities rare, the Orange Sox had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the third, when designated hitter Romain Torres hit a run-scoring single. The single came off Fernando Hernandez and made the score 2-0, Orange Sox. Torres was 1 for 3 with a walk.
"Can't say enough about our pitching," said Torres.
With the loss, Carrollton sinks to 11-4.
