Sanchez Goes Wild, But Varmits Win
Victor Sanchez did all he could to help his team win. In the end, though, it wasn't enough to keep the The Stinging Larvae from being beaten, 11-6, to the Yuma Varmits at The Range. Sanchez went 3 for 4 with 2 home runs and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. Yuma reliever Jose Mendez picked up the win, upping his record to 1-1. Roberto Moreno absorbed the loss. For The Stinging, now 4-17, the season is off to a dismal start.

Havana, Cuba-born Raul Duarte came through in the clutch. In the bottom of the seventh, with the bases loaded and the Varmits trailing 5-4, he hit a 2-run single to center to put Yuma on top.

"We put a lot of pressure on ourselves," Duarte told a Yuma Citizen reporter. "Sometimes we just need to relax."
