8-7 The Stinging Loss Tarnishes Mendoza's Fine Effort
Hector Mendoza had a good game, but he could not keep the The Stinging Larvae from falling, 8-7, to the Savannah Peaches at Martin Field. The The Stinging catcher was 4 for 5 with 2 home runs and 2 singles, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice in the loss. The winner was Ken Liberto in relief. His record improves to 2-0. Moises Gutierrez took the loss. Paul Lemieux earned the save for Savannah.

In the bottom of the sixth, Arturo Rivas delivered a clutch hit. With two gone and runners on 1st and 2nd, the Savannah first baseman hit a run-scoring single, putting the Peaches in front, 8-7.

Rivas said, "Whether you hit the ball hard, you walk, you have a long at-bat, 10 or 12 pitches, or you hit a homer, you're just trying to do anything you can do to help the team win."

The Peaches, at 20-6, have a record worth flaunting.
