Varmits Victorious at Paradise Island, 5-3
|
The Yuma Varmits picked up a win at Predator Park, downing the Paradise Island Pirates, 5-3. On the mound for Yuma was left-hander Chris Lansberry, who played a pivotal role in the win. Joel Valrie earned the save for Yuma, his 5th. The win brings the Varmits to 9-20, an awful start for a team that made the playoffs just last season.
Yuma used the timely hitting of Jose Balderas to seize the win. The designated hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Varmits on top, 3-1. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
"I was the aggressor," said Lansberry. "No doubt about it."
