Floundering Islanders Lose 6th Straight
The Oconto Falls Timbers beat the Coronado Islanders in a game featuring much hitting but not much pitching. The final score was 10-9, Timbers. One of the hitting stars was designated hitter Dave Vargas. Vargas, who is tied for 3rd in the TR in home runs with 12, belted 2 home runs, while adding 6 RBI and scoring twice. The winner was Oconto Falls reliever Ken Fowler, now 1-1. The loser was Danny Cajigas. Their 20-16 record puts the Timbers 4th in the TML R Fred McGriff Division.

The decisive blow was delivered by Bill Pomales in the bottom of the ninth when he hit a run-scoring double off 20-year old left-handed pitcher Jose Ahumada to win the game for Oconto Falls. The home crowd went nuts.

"The fans went nuts at the end," Vargas said.
