Nutcrackers Earn 5-3 Win Against Varmits
|
The Normal Nutcrackers topped the Yuma Varmits, 5-3, in 11 innings at The Range. The game was highlighted by the performance of Normal pitcher Leo Arias. Normal reliever Juan Espinoza picked up the win, upping his record to 1-1. Tony Quezada took the loss. The Nutcrackers go to 16-29 with the win.
Jose Sanchez came through with a big-time hit for Normal. The pinch hitter smacked a 2-run home run in the top of the 11th inning to give his team the lead, 5-3. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.
"It was terrific getting this win," Arias said. "We put in a lot of work to do it."
