The Jacksonville Pilots had no problem beating the Montreal Mounties, 11-2, at Arnold Field. John Popper led the way. He belted 2 home runs, while scoring 3 and driving in 6 for Jacksonville. The winning pitcher was Chris McEvoy. He tossed 79 pitches over 5 innings, allowing 2 runs on 3 hits. Leon Gutierrez sewed up the save, his 1st.

With Jacksonville leading 7-2 in the bottom of the eighth, Popper came up to bat against Montreal pitcher George Garrison. Popper hit a slider to left for a grand slam home run. His 24th home run of the season put the Pilots on top, 11-2.

"You can't sugarcoat this one," said Montreal manager Julián Martínez. "We got flat-out beat."

At 32-44, the Pilots claim last place in the Thurman Munson League Tim Ervin Division.
