Manchester Funk Reaches 6 Games
|
The Sylva Miners knocked off the Manchester Mooses, 7-4, in RCL R action at Pickaxe Field. Sylva pitcher and Bayamón, Puerto Rico, native Alberto Gil had an outstanding performance. The Mooses drop to 7-9, as their stumbling start to the 2063 season continues.
The Miners got a big at-bat from first baseman Matt Shaffer. For the game, Shaffer was 1 for 3 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. In the bottom of the first, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 1st home run of the season gave Sylva a 2-0 lead.
Shaffer said his wife shared good advice with him before the game. "She said, 'Don't allow this game to make you mad.' When I thought about it, I realized this is just a game. I was able to relax at the plate."
