Martinez Launches 2 Dingers, But Sylva Wins
The Sylva Miners overcame a pretty good performance by Scottsdale left fielder Juan Martinez, beating the Scorpions, 8-7, at Pickaxe Field. Martinez hit 2 home runs. He drove in 5 runs and scored twice. Sylva pitcher Fernando Perla got the win, upping his record to 1-0. Vincent Galindo got the loss. Getting the save was Juan Ramos, his 5th.

Stanley Wilks, who is tied for 10th in the RR in RBI with 19, helped out the Sylva cause in the bottom of the second inning with a run-scoring sacrifice fly. For the game, the shortstop drew 1 walk in 5 trips to the plate.

"I feel like a little kid every time I put the uniform on," said Wilks.

The defeat makes Scottsdale 12-5.
