The Sylva Miners beat the Caribbean Commies, 9-5, at Castro Field. Billy Thompson starred for Sylva. He went 3-5 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 5 RBI and scoring once. The Miners boast a remarkable 16-3 record.

The game turned with no one out in the top of the fourth. That's when Thompson hit a 3-run home run off Oscar Aviles. It propelled the Miners into the lead, 3-0.
