The Syracuse Orange Sox turned back the Caribbean Commies, 3-2, at Syracuse Fields. Brian Bowman, in particular, had a fine performance. He was 2 for 2 with 2 singles and 2 walks. Wilson Leyba nailed down the save. Syracuse, at 14-3, has sizzled in the early going.
Dennis Black drew 1 walk in 4 plate appearances for Syracuse. The 19-year old second baseman had a key at-bat in the bottom of the seventh. With two out and the bases loaded, he broke a 2-2 tie with a run-scoring walk off Sal Penalosa. It was his 16th walk of the season.
"I had some good swings out there," said Bowman.
