Thompson Hits Two Dingers, Miners Win, 9-2
The Sylva Miners pinned a convincing loss on the Scottsdale Scorpions, 9-2, at Pickaxe Field. Billy Thompson was a main factor in the win. He belted 2 home runs. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice for Sylva. Nate Gavin picked up the win, lifting his record to 3-1 on the season. He struck out 14 and walked 2 in 8 innings, while yielding 2 runs. The Miners have now reeled off 8 straight wins.

Thompson contributed a big hit, a 2-run home run, for Sylva in the bottom of the second. With his team trailing 1-0, Thompson took a fastball from Victor Oceguera and stroked the home run to left-center. His 7th home run of the season allowed the Miners to leap in front, 2-1.

"We're on quite a roll right now," said Thompson.
