Lighting Rally Late to Clip Sedona
The Thunder Bay Lighting withstood an impressive performance by Sedona catcher Matt Baker to defeat the Sabercats, 11-10, at The Lair at Sabercat Field. Baker was 4 for 5 with a home run and 3 singles, while scoring 2 and driving in 2. Thunder Bay reliever Brooks Messersmith picked up the win, upping his record to 4-0. B.J. Castro took the loss. Picking up the save was Juan Valdez, his 14th.

Juan Rodriques delivered a big hit for Thunder Bay. The shortstop drilled a grand slam home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Lighting ahead, 9-7. It was his only hit, but it was a beauty.

"If I do my job, we've usually got a good chance to win the game," said Rodriques.

The win gives Thunder Bay a season record of 42-28.
