Weeter Goes Off, But Miners Win
The Sylva Miners besoiled an otherwise fine performance by Key West designated hitter Chris Weeter by beating the Thunder, 9-7, at Gatorade Stadium. Weeter was 2-4 with 2 home runs and a walk. He scored 3 times and drove in 5. Dave Andrews, who went 8 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 6 runs on 10 hits, while walking 3 and striking out 13. His record now stands at 8-1. Sylva is now 40-8, 2½ games up in the RCL R John Mayberry Division.

Jaheim Burke delivered a big hit for Sylva. The catcher drilled a grand slam home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Miners ahead, 9-6. It was his only hit, but it was a beauty.

"We want to make a habit of winning," Burke said after the game.
