Clutch Hitting Delivers Win for Lighting
|
Yuma got a valiant performance from pitcher Andrew Gabrish, but it wasn't enough to beat the Thunder Bay Lighting. Thunder Bay won the game, 5-2. Gabrish threw 7.0 innings of 3-hit ball for the losing team. Pedro Alvarado, now 2-1, picked up the win in relief. He allowed 2 runs on 2 hits in 3.1 innings. The Lighting go to 45-29, putting them third in the RCL R John Mayberry Division.
Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Jose Quinones? The 19-year old shortstop Quinones stroked a 2-run double in the top of the eighth inning to put Thunder Bay up, 3-2. For the game, he was 2 for 3, including 1 double and 1 single.
"We've got a great group of guys," Quinones said, "and we're having fun right now."
