In a low-scoring contest between the Key West Thunder and the Easton Caterpillars, 16-year old right-handed pitcher Juan Leal proved to be the difference. The Key West right-hander earned props for his performance in the 3-2 Thunder win. Leal, now 2-3, was the winner. In 5 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 3, walking 2, and allowing 1 run. The last-place Caterpillars dropped to 4-53.
The Thunder got a big at-bat from designated hitter Matt Puhr. For the game, Puhr went 1-4 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the first, with a runner on 2nd, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 10th home run of the season gave Key West a 2-1 lead.
Thunder manager James Adams raved about Leal after the game. "I thought Juan was 'lights out.'"
