Lighting Rally to Nose Past Syracuse
The rain could not dampen the enthusiasm of Thunder Bay fans at Lightning Grove.

Lighting shortstop Bobby Vargas put his stamp on his team's 6-5 win over the Syracuse Orange Sox. Vargas was 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 runs for Thunder Bay in the contest. David Gallardo snagged the win in relief. The right-hander allowed 2 runs on 3 hits over 4.2 innings. He's now 4-1 on the season. Bobby Kolar closed the door for Thunder Bay, picking up his 15th save of the year.

The game was at a stalemate until right fielder Roberto Perez came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Syracuse pitcher Oscar Castillo, he hit a 1-2 cutter for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Thunder Bay on top, 6-5.

Thunder Bay manager Masamune Fujimoto was pleased with the team's effort. "Our guys played hard, they played all the way through," he said.

Thunder Bay is in first place in the RCL R John Mayberry Division with a record of 49-16.
