Pirates Handle Easton, Snag 9-6 Win
|
The Paradise Island Pirates handed the Easton Caterpillars a loss at Predator Park. The final score was 9-6. Sean Russo made the highlight reel for Paradise Island. In addition to his 1 single and 1 home run, he scored 3 runs and drove in 1. He also added 2 bases on balls. Tom Roy, the winner, goes to 2-2. He allowed 2 runs on 4 hits, with 5 walks and 8 strikeouts over 6.1 innings. The Pirates, at 33-51, sit in 5th place in the TML R Fred McGriff Division.
Francisco Avina had a big grand slam home run for the Pirates in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Paradise Island trailing 2-1 and the bases loaded, he sized up a sinker from 20-year old right-handed pitcher Jose Gomez and punished it. The result was his 1st home run of the season, which put the Pirates on top, 5-2.
"We got the victory," said Avina. "That's all that matters at the end of the day."
