Cardinals Score Late to Nip Timbers, 11-10
|
The Montreal Cardinals downed the Oconto Falls Timbers, 11-10, at The Cove. The Cardinals were led by David Nieves. Nieves was 4-7 with a double, 3 singles, and a walk, while scoring 2 runs. Dario Arriaga snagged the win in relief. He goes to 1-0 on the season. Tony Munoz suffered the loss. The Cardinals raised their record to 4-0.
The game was at a stalemate until catcher Joe McWilliams came to bat in the top of the 14th. Facing Oconto Falls pitcher Tony Munoz, he hit a 1-1 slider for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Montreal on top, 11-10.
"It was one of those games where both teams were swinging the bat well," Nieves said.
