Timbers Grind Out 2-1 Win
|
The Oconto Falls Timbers beat the Coronado Islanders by a score of 2-1. Oconto Falls second baseman Joaquin Maldonado deserved the lion's share of the credit. Maldonado was 4-4 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once for the Timbers. Oconto Falls reliever Jon Betances, who is rated as the 74th best prospect by BNN, was credited with the win. His record goes to 1-0. T.J. Mullins took the loss for Coronado. Getting the save was Mel Rocha, his 5th.
Maldonado had a game-changing home run in the bottom of the sixth. On a 2-2 sinker from T.J. Mullins, he banged a solo home run to right-center, giving the Timbers a 2-1 lead. It was the 4th home run of the year for Maldonado.
"They were just a little bit better than us," Coronado manager Ed Lenhardt said.
Coronado is 9-5 after the loss.
