Bison Take Tight Tilt, 9-8
|
The Buffalo Bison weathered a fine game by Hawaii right fielder Aaron Gross to upend the Honu, 9-8, at Thundering Grounds at Bison Stadium. Gross went 4-4 with 4 singles and a walk. He scored 3 times. Steve Hoefling, now 7-4, was credited with the win in 1 innings of relief. He allowed no runs on no hits, while striking out 1 and walking 0. Buffalo, at 47-48, holds down 4th place in the Thurman Munson League East Division.
The decisive blow was delivered by Jeff Holmes in the bottom of the ninth when he hit a run-scoring double off 20-year old left-handed pitcher Karl Molnar to win the game for Buffalo. The home crowd went nuts.
"The crowd was boisterous tonight," said Holmes.
