Down to Defeat Go Nutcrackers, 5-2
|
The Savannah Peaches picked up a win at Martin Field, knocking off the Normal Nutcrackers, 5-2. On the mound for Savannah was right-hander Jon Gurrusquieta. He played a key role in the triumph. In 6.2 innings, Gurrusquieta surrendered 4 hits, while striking out 14 and walking 2. He allowed 2 runs. Shiro Teshima finished the game for Savannah and earned his 1st save.
John Bryant had a big grand slam home run for the Peaches in the bottom of the third inning. With Savannah leading 1-0 and the bases loaded, he sized up a changeup from 21-year old right-handed pitcher Juan Reynosa and punished it. The result was his 6th home run of the season, which put the Peaches on top, 5-0.
"I'm proud of the way we took care of business and got the 'W' today," Bryant told the Savannah Chronicle. "Whatever it takes."
Savannah, now 27-12, holds down third place in the TML R Otto Velez Division.
