Vargas Excels, But Pirates Win
The Paradise Island Pirates weathered a fine game by Oconto Falls designated hitter Dave Vargas to upend the Timbers, 12-11, at Predator Park. Vargas was 1-2 with a home run and 3 walks, while scoring 3 times and driving in 3. Paradise Island pitcher Cesar Pena earned the win, hiking his record to 1-0. Tyler Madden suffered the loss. Yamada Anteau notched his 4th save in 6 chances.

Tommy Li had a big 3-run home run for the Pirates in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Paradise Island trailing 7-6 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he sized up a knuckle curve from 19-year old right-handed pitcher Tyler Madden and punished it. The result was his 7th home run of the season, which put the Pirates on top, 9-7.

"What a game," said Li. "We needed every last run."

The Pirates have an impressive 82-36 record.
