Rangers Thwart Islanders, 3-2
|
The Carrollton Rangers topped the Coronado Islanders, 3-2, with youngster Omar Fierro playing a key role. Fierro hit 2 home runs. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice for the Rangers in the win. Carrollton reliever Victor Felix picked up the win. Jonathan Johnson, who is tied for 7th in the TR with a 1.19 WHIP, took the loss for Coronado. Mario Garay recorded his 2nd save for Carrollton.
Fierro contributed in the bottom of the first. With a runner on 1st, he hit a 2-run home run. It was one at-bat among others that helped Carrollton get the win.
"We busted our tails," said Coronado manager Ed Lenhardt. "But we came up short."
The Rangers, now 13-28, know that wins in July count the same as wins in September.
