Legends, Valverde Pin Bad Loss on Islanders
The Cooperstown Legends cruised to a win over the Coronado Islanders, 12-2, at Doubleday Field. Danny Valverde led the way, going 2-for-4 for Cooperstown. Jonathan Mejia, the winner, improved to 3-2. He held the Islanders to 1 run on 2 hits over 6.1 innings, while striking out 9 and walking 5. With the win, the Legends sit at 30-17.

Nick Simmons had a big 2-run home run for the Legends in the bottom of the third inning. With Cooperstown trailing 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he got a sinker from Jason Lilley and swatted a home run to left-center. It was his 11th home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Legends ahead, 2-1.

Valverde said, "Whether you hit the ball hard, you walk, you have a long at-bat, 10 or 12 pitches, or you hit a homer, you're just trying to do anything you can do to help the team win."
