Timbers Fall to Islanders Late
|
The Oconto Falls Timbers got a sterling performance from pitcher Carlos Rotiz, but the Coronado Islanders still prevailed, 7-6. Rotiz threw 6.1 innings of 5-hit ball. Melvin Riojas, 7-4, earned the win in relief. He allowed 1 run on 2 hits in 1.1 innings. Antonio Ramirez earned his 1st save in 1 chances.
Jose Caicedo found himself in a pressure situation in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Oconto Falls hurler Alex Magana, the 20-year-old second baseman drew a walk, driving in 1 run. His 28th walk of the season put the Islanders on top, 7-6.
"It was our day today," Caicedo told the Coronado Chronicle. "But we've got to keep our nose to the grindstone."
The third-place Islanders are now 72-56, the Timbers 82-43.
