Nutcrackers Get Close Win Over Cardinals, 8-7
The Normal Nutcrackers beat the Montreal Cardinals, 8-7, at Denis Coderre Stadium. Normal pinch hitter Guillermo Castaneda had an outstanding performance. He went 1 for 1 with a home run. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. The winner in relief was Bengie Giron. The right-hander allowed 1 run on 2 hits in 2.1 innings. He now owns a record of 2-1. The win makes Normal 52-77.

Castaneda contributed a big hit, a 3-run home run, for Normal in the top of the ninth. With his team trailing 7-5, Castaneda took a fastball from Gabe Ayala and stroked the home run to right-center. His 5th home run of the season allowed the Nutcrackers to leap in front, 8-7.

In postgame comments to the Normal Bulletin, Castaneda said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
