Islanders Lose Big to Cardinals, 10-0
|
Riding the 3-hit performance of the 19-year old left fielder Matt Cox, the Montreal Cardinals stopped the Coronado Islanders, 10-0. Alberto Davila, the winning pitcher, is now 8-1. He went 6.2 innings, allowing no runs on 7 hits, while fanning 8 and walking 5. The Islanders, at 37-22, have lost 4 straight games.
Montreal shortstop Juan Diaz contributed a timely at-bat in the top of the third. With two down, he hit a fastball to right field for a run-scoring single. It was his 53rd hit of the season and put the Cardinals ahead, 3-0.
"We can't expect to win," said Coronado manager Ed Lenhardt, "with that kind of performance."
