If the Walnut Creek Warriors were expecting the pressure of the playoffs to get to Owen Stegemann, they underestimated the old man.

The Houghton Gremlins got a strong start from the 41-year-old right-hander. Stegemann threw 6.1 innings allowing 2 runs as Houghton won the contest, 5-4, at Castlerock Field to take the lead in their best-of-7 series with the Warriors. The Gremlins now lead 1-0.

Juan Cevallos, who is a three-time All-Star, helped out the Houghton cause in the top of the sixth inning with a run-scoring sacrifice fly. For the game, the catcher drove in one run.

Cevallos said the win provided a "big morale boost" for the team. "There's a good feeling in the clubhouse right now."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Castlerock Field in Walnut Creek.
