In a tight game between the Paradise Island Pirates and the Yuma Varmits, pitcher Dan Giffen was terrific on the mound. The Paradise Island right-hander helped his team to the 2-0 win. Yamada Anteau earned his 13th save in 16 chances. Paradise Island is now 101-44, while Yuma is 73-73.
The standout performance belonged to 19-year-old Giffen. With his baby face, he looked more like someone starting for a high school team than for the Pirates. His performance, however, was nothing short of top-notch. The youngster dominated the Varmits, striking out 13 and scattering 5 hits over 7.1 innings. Giffen is now 12-2 on the season.
"I executed the game plan," said Giffen.
