The Eureka Hornets defeated the Montreal Mounties, 8-7, in 11 innings. Much of the credit belonged to center fielder Benny Rodriguez, who went 3 for 5 with 3 singles and a walk. He scored 2 times for the Hornets. The win puts the Hornets at 67-40, while the Mounties drop to 63-45.

Eureka used the timely hitting of Ed Cormack to seize the win. The designated hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the 11th inning to put the Hornets on top, 8-7. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"That's what these guys do," said Hornets manager Juan Montés. "They battle, they fight."
