Apples Use Late-Game Magic to Beat Sting, 5-4
The Carmel Apples spoiled a good performance by Houston designated hitter Todd Frank, bumping off Houston, 5-4, at BLM Stadium. Frank was 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Carmel pitcher Taylor Allmon got the win, upping his record to 3-5. Eddie Gomez got the loss. Picking up the save was 24-year old right-handed pitcher Kyle Ott.

Carmel took a 5-4 lead on Ricardo Villarreal's 18th double of the season. The run-scoring double, which Villarreal hit in the bottom of the eighth, left Houston pitcher Eddie Gomez visibly frustrated.

"I like to keep things lively in the clubhouse," said Villarreal. "Believe me, it's much easier after a win."

The Apples saw their win-loss record go to 94-46. At the same time, the Sting fell to 55-85.
