Pelicans Shut Out Dancin' Outlaws, 3-0
|
In a low-scoring game between the St. Petersburg Pelicans and the West Virginia Dancin' Outlaws, pitcher Tony Nunes was the difference-maker. The St. Petersburg left-hander was tough as nails in the 3-0 Pelicans win. Danny Botello earned his 7th save in 8 chances. Despite the win, the Pelicans have a lousy 40-114 record.
In the bottom of the fifth, Ismael Yepez delivered a clutch hit. With two gone and the bases loaded, the St. Petersburg designated hitter hit a 2-run single, putting the Pelicans in front, 3-0.
"We made a couple of mistakes," said West Virginia skipper Guy de Kleijn, "and it cost us."
