Starting pitcher Bruce Moreno pitched well enough to help the Walnut Creek Warriors beat the Bighorn Bison, 5-3. Walnut Creek, now 66-51, holds down first place in the Roberto Clemente League Christian Latulippe Division.
Walnut Creek used the timely hitting of Matt Saxton to capture the win. The left fielder stroked a 2-run double in the top of the seventh inning to put the Warriors on top, 5-2. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but he made it count.
"We're all about heart and hustle on this team. That's what wins ballgames," Saxton told the Walnut Creek Observer.
