Slice Spill Gremlins, 4-2
|
The Manhattan Slice got a good effort from starter Wayne Duncan in defeating the Houghton Gremlins at Golden Goebels Park. The final score was 4-2. In 6.2 innings, Duncan surrendered 5 hits, while striking out 1 and walking 0. He allowed no runs. Yes, it was a win for Manhattan; but their 42-79 record is still nothing to boast about.
Manhattan used a well-timed hit by Jose Vasquez to capture the win. The center fielder socked a run-scoring double in the top of the first inning to put the Slice ahead, 2-0. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.
"I think every team will tell you that the pitching sets the tone, especially the starters," said Manhattan skipper Giampaolo Marcovicci.
