Mavericks 7-4 Victors Over Havana
|
The El Paso Mavericks beat the Havana Stogies, 7-4. El Paso pitcher and La Vega, Dominican Republic, native Franklin Lucero led the way. Lucero yielded 2 runs over 6.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 8 hits, walked 1, and struck out 5. His record improves to 11-6. The loss makes Havana 66-78.
The Mavericks got a big at-bat from shortstop Brad Coates. For the game, Coates was 1-3 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. In the bottom of the first, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 7th home run of the season gave El Paso a 2-1 lead.
"It was a good night for them and a bad night for us," said Havana manager Pedro Mercado.
