Moonshiners Defeat Gremlins, 2-1
|
The bats were silent much of the day at The Still. But fan favorite Amezwaru Kimaiyo produced just enough offense to carry the Moonshiners past the Houghton Gremlins, 2-1. Kimaiyo was 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. The winning pitcher was Felix Garcia. His record now stands at 7-10. The right-hander went 5 innings, allowing 1 run on 4 hits for the Moonshiners. Steven Shiplack earned his 20th save in 27 chances.
Kimaiyo contributed a big hit, a 2-run home run, for Asheville in the bottom of the third. With his team trailing 1-0, Kimaiyo took a splitter from Chris Crawford and stroked the home run to right-center. His 14th home run of the season allowed the Moonshiners to leap in front, 2-1.
"Tough loss," said Houghton manager Dane Freeman. "But we'll learn from it."
The Moonshiners saw their record improve to 54-69.
