Pioneers Win 6-5 Nail-Biter Versus Bison
Fans watched the Vancouver Pioneers and the Buffalo Bison fight to the finish.

The Vancouver Pioneers picked up a win at "The Fort" at B.C. Place, taking down the Buffalo Bison, 6-5, in 13 innings. On the mound for Vancouver was left-hander Mike Ortner. He played a central role in the triumph. Cameron Calder claimed the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The left-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 3.2 innings. His record stands at 3-2.

A crucial at-bat came with the bases empty and no one out in the bottom of the eighth inning. That's when right fielder Aaron Elting hit a solo home run. The Pioneers went on to win.

"We're a talented bunch when we're playing well," said Ortner. "I think we showed that here."

The Bison, now 67-77, have lost 6 in a row.
