Pilots Come Up Short at Hawaii, 3-2
|
In a low-scoring affair between the Hawaii Honu and the Jacksonville Pilots, pitcher Chris Sweeney was the difference between victory and defeat. The Hawaii right-hander earned accolades for his stellar performance in the 3-2 Honu win. Karl Molnar finished to wrap up his 35th save. The second-place Pilots dropped to 76-68.
With scoring opportunities rare, the Honu had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the second, when catcher Paul Cavanaugh hit a run-scoring single. The single came off Jonathan Millsap and made the score 3-0, Honu. Cavanaugh went 1-3.
Jacksonville manager Ryan Currie said he was "mildly disappointed" with the loss. "We had our opportunities, but we didn't take advantage of them," he said.
