Pioneers Prevail, 3-1, Over Walnut Creek
|
The Vancouver Pioneers picked up a win at "The Fort" at B.C. Place, courtesy of Mike Ortner. The left-hander helped his team stop the Walnut Creek Warriors, 3-1. Ortner, now 2-1, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 9 hits, while striking out 5, walking 0, and allowing 1 run. Walnut Creek now is 10-5.
Wonus Hagner had a big 2-run triple for the Pioneers in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Vancouver leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a curveball from 27-year old left-handed pitcher Nelson Ramirez and swatted a triple to left-center. It was his 1st triple of the season, and more importantly, it put the Pioneers ahead, 3-0.
"It's so much easier when you throw good pitches," said Ortner.
