Nieto Stars for Honu in 8-3 Win
|
The Hawaii Honu beat the Bighorn Bison, 8-3, with major props going to first baseman Carlos Nieto. On the day, Nieto was 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once for the Honu. Joe Fleury claimed the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 2.1 innings. His record stands at 6-3. Hawaii currently is in third place in the Thurman Munson League West Division at 80-78.
The game was at a stalemate until shortstop Les Hutchinson came to bat in the top of the eighth. Facing Bighorn pitcher Mike Lake, he hit a 1-0 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Hawaii on top, 4-3.
"It's nice to come out on top today," said Hutchinson.
